I am passionate about supporting children who are gestalt language processors and helping them develop meaningful, functional communication in a way that honors how they naturally learn language.
Some children learn language in chunks or phrases rather than developing language one word at a time. These children may repeat phrases they have heard from people, shows, songs, or everyday experiences. These phrases, often called gestalts, can have a specific meaning to the child even when the words do not appear to fit the situation.
Gestalt language processing is a natural way of learning language. Rather than focusing on replacing a child's gestalts, therapy can help children understand, modify, and eventually create their own flexible, spontaneous language.
In therapy, I focus on meeting children where they are in their communication journey. I use child-led, engaging activities and model language that is meaningful and functional for each individual child. My goal is to help children move toward increasingly flexible and self-generated communication while respecting their unique communication style.
